Home Lab

I am setting up a Home Lab for the purpose of learning  Active Directory, and ServiceNow integrations. As I go on this journey I plan on documenting it, from the up and downs, to trials and errors.

So a good place to start would be to give details of the hardware that will be used in this process. Hardware might change through out this journey and I will post something as it does change.

Server Side Setup
  1. Dell Poweredge w/ dual Intel X5670 2.93GHz & 48GB RAM
Running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
  2. Hyper-V  – Domain Controller – Windows server 2012 R2 Standard
  3. Hyper-V  – ServiceNow Mid Server – Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard
Client Side Setup
  1. Custom Built Desktop
    Windows 10 Pro w/ Hyper-V Manager installed.
  2. Hyper-V – Client – Windows 10 Pro
  3. Hyper-V – Client – Windows 7 Pro

To start all versions of the operating system are legal, licensed, & activated copies. If you are student with a valid .edu email address you can get your own copies of Windows Server from https://imagine.microsoft.com. You can also check with your college to see if they have any other software you can get for free.

I am running Hyper-V because it is included in the operating systems I all ready own. I so far have all the OS’s installed and updated and now it’s time to start creating the domain.

The next post will go over setting up a domain and populating AD with users ans groups.
